New Video: Ja Rule feat. Lil Wayne - Uh Oh

Besides the probability of this having been a publicity stunt, I'm not sure how well Ja Rule is going to do in today's climate.  He seems out of place in the song and the video as well.  I don't know if it's the amount of time that he spent away or the dated sound of the song.  He obviously knew the status of his relevancy, otherwise he wouldn't have enlisted the hottest rapper/collaborator/remix king out there right now - Lil Wayne, who murders him on this track.  Trust, if it weren't for his presence, I wouldn't have even bothered to listen.

A friend of mine brought up a good point though.  Many have lost respect for Ja because after 50 shut him and his whole crew down, he didn't fight back and just faded away into oblivion.  He had  a few songs here and there, I can remember "Clap Back" and "New York" but nothing solid or longlasting.  We didn't even really hear much from Ashanti.  Even realizing that they had the whole legal situation with Irv, something still should have been done to keep The Inc. in people's mouths.  But I guess they're giving it another go 'round:  Irv has a reality show due out soon, Ashanti has the single out with Jagged Edge and now this effort.  So what do you all think - is his time up???

New Video: Diddy feat. Mario Winans - Through the Pain (Dear Kim)

What, was this video done like 2 seconds after Diddy and Kim "broke up?"  Say what you will, he is a marketing genius and it seems like he's showing Kim the ropes of the game.  I say in about 10 years these two will be tucked away on some private island never to be seen again.

New Video: Chingy feat. Luda, Small World, Steph Jones - Celebrity Chick

"Celebrity Chick" is the first single from the upcoming DTP compliation, Strength in Numbers.  It's good to see that Chingy has come to his senses and hooked back up with the guy who helped get him out there in the first place.  The song is catchy with nice production and is a certified club joint and radio burner.

"Duffle Bag Boys," my personal favorite (Playaz Circle feat. Lil Wayne) will be the second single from the compilation and they will soon be shooting a video for it.

New Video: Keyshia Cole feat. Missy & Lil Kim - Let It Go

"Let It Go" aired last night on BET's Access Granted and I must say that I'm pleased with the results.  It has a nice 90's era feel to it.  She soo reminds me of a young Mary J. Blige.  I am a huge fan of Keyshia, she's an amazing singer and songwriter and not too many rnb chicks can touch her right now.  The album, Just Like You is set to be released on 9.18.07 so you already know that I'll be first in line to get it.

A video has finally been made for one of my favorite songs this year.  Not quite what I expected but I'll take it.  If you're feeling it, be sure to vote it onto 106&Park and be sure to catch his album due October 2nd.

New Video: Yung Joc feat Gorilla Zoe- Coffee Shop

I said before that I haven't always been the biggest fan of Joc, but since hearing "Coffee Shop" a few months ago, I may have to reconsider.  He has stepped it up a few notches and provided us with a catchy and creative hook and an even more brilliant video.  This is what I like to see artists doing - relating the visuals to the lyrics in a colorful way, not posing in front of cars surrounded by dancing chicks.  He's even slimmed down a bit and adopted a Rihanna like 80's style.  Kudos!

New Video: Justin Timberlake - LoveStoned

Another great video by J.T.  For all of you who jumped on the bandwagon after T.I. appeared on "My Love," I strongly urge you to listen to this entire album (FutureSex/LoveSounds) as well as his solo debut, Justified.  I will upload them both later on tonight if you wish...

New Video: Young Buck - U Ain't Goin Nowhere

New video from Young Buck. Hmmm it's ok I guess.  I'm diggin the voice of the chick Latoya Williams and I like the little switch over video (with Lyfe Jennings) much more.  Which begs the question:  Do thug love songs even really work anymore?  By thug love songs I mean where a rapper shows his sensitive, or sexual side for the ladies and there is usually a chick singin the hook.  One more recent thug love song that I truly enjoy is the Fabolous and Neyo joint but that's one of Fab's niches.  He always makes a hit when it's done on these terms.  Plies tried it with T-Pain but it just sounds harsh and over exaggerated.  Had it not been for T-Pain on the chorus, I wouldn't even listen to it.  Ugh, then Yung Joc tag-teamed with Trey Songz and Marques Houston for that "First Time" crap.  ugh. Yung Joc is so not sexy at all.

I guess the R&B cats are thuggin it enough to do the love songs for them right?  So let's take a look at some of my top picks from the past...

Did You Feel a Shift in the Climate?

My heart goes pitter patter and life just got a little bit sweeter.  I could hardly contain my joy when I saw that a video was finally made to one of my favorite songs of the year.  It stays put as my MySpace theme music.  Every little feature and cameo of Outkast is one step closer to a full out single and then an entire cd.  The song has been out a while, indeed, but I never expected a video to be released, and such a creative and brilliant video at that.  There's a gang of cameos in it - actors, musicians, musical affiliates and such.  My love for Outkast surpasses my love for T.I. and with his upcoming album being somewhat questionable (yet I remain hopeful) it will be such a perfect entry for them.  If you read my posts on a regular basis you'll start to notice that I reminisce quite a bit but you must understand that I Ioved the music that was out way back then - in my younger years up until a few years ago.  I like the music here and there that is out now; there's a big difference.  Sometimes I am able to find slight love out there but Outkast was the first rap group that I actually listened to, word for word, each and every song, over and over again until I had it memorized.  I remember the first time BET aired their video for "Player's Ball" and I was awestruck.  Who were these guys rapping the way they do and dressing the way they do and talking about the things they're talking about, yet sounding so soulful and having so much to say??  Desperatley waiting for some new material from them...

I have love for UGK as well, ever since I heard "Something Good," and "Pocket Full of Stones."  Not their first singles or cuts from their first album, I know, but that was my introduction to them.  My grandmother was living in Houston at the time and I went to visit her for a summer and they played this constantly along with some hits from the group 2nd II None.  Remember them??  Granted, I didn't follow them the way I did 'Kast but I respect them and appreciate them just the same...
