I browse through my favorite blogs every single day and within the past few months, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding Nick Cannon. A large majority of it being of the hatred kind which is perfectly fine with me since everyone is entitled to their own opinions (that is why we blog, isn’t it?). But I have a different take on Mr. Cannon. I happen to think he’s extremely talented, misunderstood and overlooked. He actually reminds me of a young Will Smith.
He’s been on the scene since he was a kid performing stand-up comedy at The Improv; pretty impressive to me. He later starred in a sketch-comedy show on Nickelodeon (“All That”) for 2 years. “All That” later spawned off another show “The Nick Cannon Show” which lasted for a year. Then fast forward to “Wild & Out” which started in 2005 on MTV. GREAT show! It’s a mix of sketch comedy, improve, live performances and eye candy. Similar to “Saturday Night Live” but for a younger, urban audience. Who else is doing this??? Didn’t Cedric the Entertainer attempt this a few years back and fail miserably?
And he’s also been in a few movies, all of which were at the very least decent: Roll Bounce (not half-bad), Men in Black(don’t front ya’ll know ya’ll loved it), Drumline, Love Don’t Cost a Thing (cute, rainy-day Sunday type movie), The Underclassman (more entertaining than you think), and most notably Bobby (check that out by the way, it’s outstanding!).
And I bet most of you don’t realize some of his business ventures: his production deal with MTV provides him with the money to create and develop his own shows; owns a boutique in LA; creative director of PNB Nation clothing; recording artist (of the squeaky-clean variety and we can’t hate him for that). And I’m sure there’s much more that what we don’t know about
I guess he seems a little ‘lame’ compared to other industry giants and his breakup with Christina Milian may have begun the hatred towards him, then we didn’t understand how beauties such as Kim Kardashian and that Victoria’s Secret model chick were in his black book, but all in all you can’t front that he’s one of the nice guys out there successfully living his dream. So if your thing is bull-headed kneegrows who brag about money they probably don’t have, then cool; but if you like kneegrows who are about their business, then don’t count him out…
