"Transformers": A Damn Good Movie

MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

It's always hard to tell when a classic cartoon or tv show turned movie will be any good.  A good bulk of them aren't ("The Hulk"), some of them are ("Spiderman") and then there is "Transformers."  I was able to catch it a day before it came out and I'm glad I didn't pass up the chance!  It was action packed from the first 5 minutes all the way to the end of the movie.  And it was actually funny - no cornball lines or newbie actors who seem to be reading through the entire movie.  Admittedly, I vaguely remember "Transformers" as a kid - I watched it mainly due to my neighborhood guy friends and I had a toy or two - but seeing the movie jogged my memory a bit and I can say that I actually appreciate it much more in my adult age.  So I urge you to go see this while it is in theaters because you know it's not always the same when it's on your little tv screen.  Hell, even the trailors seemed to be good.  Let me know what you all think about it! 

American Gangster

I don't know if you all have seen this yet but it's a clip from the upcoming flick, American Gangster featuring Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, T.I., Cuba Gooding, RZA and others.  It is the true life story of drug kingpin Frank Lucas who is famous from smuggling heroin into Harlem using the coffins of American soldiers who fought in the Vietnam war.  It is rumored that Frank (played by Denzel Washington) was doing more business and making more money than the Italian mafia.  He was sentenced to 70 years in prison for drug violations.  Five years later he was released for his cooperation in turning in other drug offenders.  THEN he was arrested again a few years later for conspring to distribute heroin.  Judging from the clip it's going to be an excellent movie...

Movie: Mr. Brooks

If you're looking for something to do this weekend, go check out Kevin Costner's new movie, "Mr. Brooks" which he produced and starred in.  Trust me, it's much better than you would expect!  I went to see a premiere of it and had not seen any clips of it or had even heard of it so I was surprised that it was as intriguing as it was.  And Dane Cook plays a good role that is the opposite of what we would normally see him in.   Here is a trailer and if you happen to check it out, let me know what you think of it.

Chris Brown, the Thespian

Chris Brown is really on a roll.  Still riding the success of his critically acclaimed self-titled debut cd, he's been on tour, in a movie and now he is set to act in yet another movie due out the end of this year.  The movie,This Christmas is a drama centered around a family's first holiday together after 4 years.  Other cast members include Regina King, Lauren London, Idris Elba (YUM), Mekhi Phifer (YUMYUM) and many others.
